Passport 8600 스위치는 4단계의 부팅과정을 갖는다.
전원을 켜면 SF/CPU에 내장된 부트로더가 실행되면서 부팅이 시작된다.
Stage 1: Loading the boot monitor image
전원이 켜지면 SF/CPU 가 부트모니터 이미지를 로드시킨다.
부트모니터 이미지 로딩이 완료되면 콘솔포트나 모뎀포트, 외장메모리카드 슬롯 등등...이 초기화 된다.
이때, 입출력포트는 사용불가능함.
Stage 2: Loading the boot configuration
부트모니터 이미지가 로딩이 완료되면, 외부메모리카드 슬롯에 메모리가 있으면, /pcmcia/pcmboot.cfg에서
파일을 로드시킨다.
외부메모리카드가 없거나 외부 메모리에 pcmboot.cfg 파일이 없으면 /flash/boot.cfg 을 로드시킨다.
/flash/boot.cfg이 없고, 외부메모리카드에/pcmcia/boot.cfg 파일이 있을 경우 boot.cfg 를 로드시킨다.
위의 3가지 경우에도 config 파일을 못 찾으면 default boot-configuration setting을 시작한다.
주의 : pcmcia 카드는 sandisk 제품을 사용하지마세요!
sandisk제품을 사용시에 부팅시에 config파일을 제대로 읽을 수가 없습니다.
autoboot flag 이 disable 이거나 부팅중에서 콘솔에서 부팅을 중단시키면 boot monitor 모드에 접근이 가능합니다.
boot monitor 모드에서는 boot configuration 이나 boot monitor image, run-time image 를 업그레이드 가능.
Stage 3: Loading the run-time image
boot configuration 로딩이 완료되면 run-time image가 로딩된다. run-time image는 입출력 모듈을 초기화시키고,
8600의 모든 기능을 동작하게 한다.
run-time image는 flash, pcmcia, TFTP server 에서 로딩이 가능하다.
configration 파일(/pcmcia/boot.cfg, /flash/boot.cfg) 에 default 로드 순서가 기본적으로 설정되어 있고,
어디서 run-time image파일을 어떤 우선순위로 불러올지 설정 가능하다. (boot monitor 모드에서)
Stage 4: Loading the switch configuration file
마지막으로 스위치 configuration 파일(/flash/config.cfg)을 로딩한다.
스위치configuration 에는 아래와 같은 기능들로 구성되어 있다.
• Chassis configuration
• Port configuration
• Spanning tree group (STG) configuration
• VLAN configuration
• Routing configuration
• IP address assignments
• RMON configuration
